Frederick Marathon Information
Overview
Proceeds of the 2008 Frederick Marathon will benefit the United Way of Frederick County. Fast, gently rolling course spanning the northern and southern regions of Frederick. In 2005, one out of every six runners qualified for the Boston Marathon. The average finishing time was 4:11. Elevation variation of 100 feet. USATF Certified MD05005JS. This race can be used as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. Average Temperature at start of race: 58° ChampionChip timing will be used. Personally owned ChampionChips may be used (please include Chip ID number when registering). Timing and scoring services will be provided by Kale Enterprises, Inc. For more information on these services, visit www.KaleRunning.com or email team@KaleRunning.com. All miles will be signed. Split times given at regular intervals. Water and electrolyte replacement fluid available at all aid stations. Fruit and energy gel available at miles 12 and 20. Medical stations throughout the course. Marathon Photographers will take professional photographs of as many runners as possible. Make sure your bib number is clearly visible for the photographers. Results will be posted on the web site within 24 hours. Marathon, half-marathon, and relay finishers will receive commemorative medals and finishers t-shirts. Course will remain open for six hours, closing on a continuous pace of 14 minutes per mile. For your safety: no strollers, skates, or pets allowed on the course.
Packet Pick-Up Packet pick-up will be on Saturday from 10am - 8pm during the Sports Expo. You may also pick up your packet from 6-7am on race day, but we advise against it. Runners who are not able to pick up their packets in person during the Sports Expo must make arrangements for a representative to pick up their packets. Your representative must present a signed authorization from you in order to claim your packet and premium.
Pace Yourself We have experienced pace group leaders ready to help you achieve your goal time of 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45, or 5:00. The pace groups are a free service. Simply stop by the Pace Group table at the Sports Expo to sign up (so we know how many to expect).
The Nitty Gritty When at the starting line, please position yourself near the sign closest to your expected finish time. Signs will be posted for the following times: sub 3, 3:30, 4:00, 4:30, 5:00, 5:30, and 6 hours.
The course will remain open for six hours, closing on a continuous pace of 14:00 minutes per mile. Anyone who cannot maintain this pace must move to the sidewalks as the course closes to allow regular vehicular traffic to resume.
The following items are not permitted on the course: pets, skateboards, bicycles, roller blades, baby joggers, and any other type of vehicle (other than official Marathon vehicles). These regulations are for your safety and the safety of the other participants in the race. The Frederick Marathon reserves the right to disqualify and remove anyone from the course who has any of the above items.
Elite Athletes The Frederick Marathon does not offer any travel, expense, or appearance money. Free entry into the marathon is given to men with a qualifying time of 2:35 or under, and to women with a qualifying time of 3:00 or under. To receive free entry, elite athletes must submit a completed and signed entry form (downloaded from our website) by mail or fax, along with a copy his/her running accomplishments (last two years).

Bib Number Requirements
All registered participants will receive bib numbers that must be worn on race day. Please fill in the necessary medical and emergency contact information on the back of the bib number with a pen or waterproof marker. Please do not alter the bib in any way. The bib must be visible and worn on the front outside of all clothing during the entire race. Make sure your bib number is clearly visible for the race photographers. Bib numbers are non-transferable and must be worn by the registrant to whom it has been assigned.
Timing Chip Requirements
Do not forget to pick up and securely attach your timing chip before the race. Without a chip, your time will not be recorded! The timing chip must be secured to your shoe. If you carry the chip in your hand or fanny pack it will not record a time. Chips are non-transferable and must be worn only by the participant to whom it is assigned. Do not cross the finish line more than once. If you drop out of the race, please notify a course official. You will be transported back to the stadium. DO NOT CROSS THE FINISH LINE. Do not lose the chip! A $30 replacement fee will be charged to any participant who fails to return the chip at the finish line.
Awards & Premiums
All runners will receive a commemorative short-sleeve performance t-shirt. All finishers will receive a commemorative race medal and exclusive finisher's t-shirt. Cash awards will be given to the top five overall male and female runners, and to the top male and female masters' runners. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each five-year age group. No duplicate awards. Awards will be given to the top male and female Frederick County runners. Awards may be duplicative. Awards will not be mailed. You must claim your award on race day. The cash prizes for the 2006 Frederick Marathon will be:
